3 quarter ton springs on 1/2 ton?

you need to have v10 or diesel coil springs in oder to get the 2.5-3" of lift.

yup. This is the only way to get the lift.

should i order 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton shocks. or are they the same

I put 3/4 in, and it worked great. You will have to decide between 5.9, or V10/Cummins springs though. I put in 5.9. I also got shocks from Summit Racing, as they are much stiffer than those found at Advanced and Napa.

I'm not sure about the second gen, but I know 3rd 3/4 are larger. I put the 3/4 on my 1500 and haven't had any problems yet though. They haven't maxed out and they made the ride a hell of a lot nicer.
