1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 Death flash?
Hey guys, I'm new to the site. I've recently been on here a lot checking out these forums, and they've gave me a good heads up so far. I purchased my 1998 Dodge Ram about 2 months ago. I haven't really added any upgrades besides some 33X12.50X15 Falken Wild Peak All-terrains and a 180 degree thermostat. Besides that I've only done regular maintenance (oil, trans fluid filter, battery, spark plugs and wires.) The truck runs fine, has 143,000 miles and is said to have had a transmission rebuild at 100,000 miles. Though it's running fine I really feel like I should be getting a lot more power than it's actually putting out. If I stop on a slight incline it seems like I have to floor it to get it going again. I'm at understanding that I have 33 inch tires, but it was like that even with 31 inch tires. As I've been reading these threads, I've got a pretty good understanding about the death flash, and my question is does anyone know if they have flashed any from 1998? The only authorized dealership sticker I can find is on the metal radiator brace, but searching the numbers on google nothing comes up. Does anyone know if this is the death flash, or what it is? If it has a PCM (and it does) and you have mot installed a tune to remove Death Flash, you have the Death Flash.
Also, why are you running a 180 stat? Just to make it run pig rich?
Read the Plenum sticky and this may be a contributing factor to "should be getting a lot more power than it's actually putting out."

A tune from www.hemifevertuning.com will take care of that death flash thing. But make sure your plenum gasket is good, and if not, a member here sells the plenum kit on e-bay cheaper than Hughes. Need to get that checked/fixed.

You were told wrong... If that were true you'd think the engineers would put in a 180* tstat, no? But you'll need that 180* if you put in the SCT.
