Exclamation tranny help.....

OK guys im new to this just got the truck a few weeks ago. its a 98 1500 4x4 extended cab 4door. i was having problems with it going into drive, took it to my dodge dealer and had them put it on the computer and they said that the Govern pressure transducer was bad and needed to be changed , they also said to go ahead and change the solenoid at the same time. ( i might have the part names mixed up but its the 2 in the bottom of the transmission when you take the pan off ) so I did and now i have some issues first thing is my overdrive off light is on, and there is no way to turn it off or on in my truck iv looked for the button everywhere in the cab. second my trans temp light comes on after i let it idle for about 20mins. depending on how hot it is out side. iv checked to make sure it was passing both was to the cooler and its good.

so any help is appreciated,
Andrew

Put your hand on the shifter. Stop. The OD button is in your hand. It is at the end of the shifter.

Something is making it overheat. So not run it until you find out why.

What kind of fluid did you put in it?

Go to the FAQ/DIY section and download the free service manual there. Read the transmission section very closely. Look for overheating and OD. See if that helps you find out what is going on an post back what you find. I am out of town in a hotel or I would do some reading on it.

The reason the overdrive light came on, is because when the transmission fluid overheats. The transmission goes into default. Meaning you can only shift up to 3rd gear. You need to find out why the fluid is overheating. First thing i would do is scan the pcm for any active or stored codes and post.

Ah, my bad, I misread that the dealer did the work. Like these guys say, find out why it is overheating.

before you do any more.... check to make sure that the 8 pin round connector on the outside of the trans is connected properly. this same thing just happened to me when i put my new motor in. thought i had the connector all the way on, but it wasnt, and came loose. resulting in exactly what yours is doing.

Also, even after you fix the problem. Do not let it idle in park for long. The fluid is not being circulated through the tranny when in park. I'd take the pan back off and make sure the sensor wires are plugged in all the way.

I just finished fixing the exact same problem. The pressure sensor I first bought and installed was causing the problem.(Said Mopar on the box but was made in China). I removed it and put the old one back in and the lites stopped coming on, but I had the shifting issues again.
Drove 30 miles this morning to get another sensor that was "made in USA". I installed this one and drove the truck around for 20 minutes and no lites came on. No problem with the truck shifting gears anymore either.
If you still have these issues try putting the old sensor/transducer back in.(the one with 4 pins) The new solenoid can be left in. If the trans temp and O/D lites don't come on, get a different sensor/transducer and bring the one you have now back. My dealer gave me my money back when I told them what happened.
I hope this helps.
