Default 318/5.2 help

timing chain went, replaced it. but timing dots did not line up. rotor was 180 out. So I was told to pull the distributor and turn it back. Can a rotor shaft jump like that?? Cause after I lined the rotor back to number one on the distributor, dots on camshaft at 6 0clock and crank at 12, piston at TDC. I get nothing. motor just spins, no compression

What model year Ram do you have? If its after 1994, you shouldn't be turning the distributor at all.

For future reference:

What year? (you can put the truck info in your signature and it will be on each post - so we don't have to keep asking and you don't have to keep re-typing it)

What do you mean by timing chain "went?"

Do not pull distributor.

Pull it back down. Something is not lined up. Post photos?

do NOT pull the distributor. you'll screw up the fuel sync and timing and it'll cost you a bundle to get it reset.

here's a pic of the dot to dot alignment which i think is TDC at #6, not #1.

explain your failure. did it jump time and bend the valves?

thank for ur reply my #802 733 6054 if I could talk to u would be great! my truck die while driving, had it tow to a garage, he said no compression might be timing chain. so had it tow back to my house. took it apart and the chain rip out half the teeth's on the crank shaft gear. when I put the new on, both line up like ur picture the rotor was not pointing at # one cylinder like the book says. 180 degrees off

180 off would put it at number 6. Which should be correct. Re-check compression before reassembling.
