Thoughts On Doing This For Fuel Pump....
So my fuel pump took a dump today with over a half a tank of gas. I know I can drop the tank after siphoning or have heard of people pulling the bed off. I thought about doing this and found after research that a lot of eople actually do. What are your thoughts? I can cut it out the bed and make a riveted hatch and seal it that way if the pump ever goes out again or if the $84 ebay pump I just bought is defective,I can change it out in a half an hour or so...seems good to me.Here's a link
IMO, taking the bed off is ridiculous. I've also always thought about making a removable lid too.
But , I'd still drain and remove the tank and get it away, before doing the mod. And if you are getting an $84 fuel pump, I suggest you prep for replacing it again anyway before too long.

Yea I'm worried about the cheapness also but local store wanted $220 and $84 sounded like it was worth a shot, one year warranty also. Agreed that removing before cutting would be best but do you think if i used a reciprocating saw it would be alright? I dont think there would be any sparks and I could do one side, let it cool, then continue on...
I too never got the point of pulling the bed off F THAT.
I just used my atv/motorcycle jack and dropped the tank using that on my 93' & the 98' I used to have. ITS EASY.
EDIT: I think on the 2nd gens if you cut an access hatch you will be sacrificing the strength of the bed because there is a support member directly above the fuel pump, and to cut that access hatch you would have to cut thru that support member. BAD IDEA don't do that.
EDIT #2: Watched the video, support member will be cut. I would NOT do that.
