2001 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 Sport A/C Not working
Hey guys i have looked threw the forums and couldn't find anything that is close to my problem so here it is.. I have a 01 ram 1500 sport 4x4 with a 360 the ac clutch don't engage so i went and got some freon hooked it up and the gauge reads charged. so i checked the clutch by hand and it spins freely by hand. the compressor doesn't make any noises when the truck is running. I was wondering if a bad low or high port switch could be causing the problem. I did check all the fuses and relays and there all working. any help would be very appreciated thank u in advance
If you see the center spinning when the engine is running, the compressor is engaged, no spin, no engagement.
However, that is all I know, so you're going to have to wait for someone else.
Good luck and welcome to DF.

The AC evap core is likely no good(very common) . The gauge on the can you bought is junk also. Without the compressor running the reading is false. As stated, try jumping the low side plug . If the compressor starts, it's at least good. And you simply don't have enough 134A in the system for it to work. It does not work because you most likely have a leak.
With a paper clip, do you know where the low side switch is? Probably not right? Working on the AC system is almost as dangerous as replacing the fan clutch while the engine is running.
I'd give you more help, but I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting hurt. You can find all the info you need, by downloading the free service manual from the FAQ/DIY section and by purchasing the HAYNES AC manual. The low side pressure switch is on top of the accumulator/drier.

Yep, find the low pressure switch connector, usually the only electrical connector readily visible on the refrigerant lines. Disconnect the connector, start the truck, turn the AC on and then take a wire or paper clip and short the two female ends of the connector. If the compressor is good, this will engage the clutch and turn the inner portion of the compressor pulley (the actual compressor). If it engages the clutch, you probably don't have not enough R134 in it (normally takes around 2 lbs, read the label under the hood, it will tell you how much).
