Just curious, why do you need an impact to get the hub nut off on a 2wd? I see that you have an '01 so there may be some slight difference from my '98, but you should be able to pull the nut with a simple adjustable wrench after pulling the cotter pin through the castle/hub nut. If it is necessary, i just picked up an electric impact from Harbor Freight for $50.

the 00 and 01 2wd has a unitized hub/bearing, which is very much like the 4wd and is torqued pretty high. i think the 4wd 1500 is torqued to 175. i'm recalling from long lost memory that the 2wd is a little less, maybe 135 or 150. you can probably get the nut off with a long pull bar, if the pull bar is stout enough not to break.

i have a 1/2 inch dewalt electric impact wrench that i use for almost everything tough, although i didn't try it on the axle nut. i can't swear it'll remove that hub nut, but it sure is handy for general stuff. i bought it on ebay for about $65 and it looked like brand new.

i wouldn't buy anything electric from harbor freight.

the 2wd hub nut does say 'do not reuse'. you can buy from online or from dealer. i assume they are some kind of soft steel thats supposed to stretch and stay tight. the 4wd has either a cotter pin and/or a dimple that you bend in to lock it. i don't know about the 2wd. i know some people have reused them without a problem, but i wouldn't recommend it since its stamped on there - not to.

Hub nuts are self-locking. That is why they only get used once. You REALLY need to replace those as well, or, use some REALLY good thread locker on them.

I re-use them all the time and never had a problem. As long as you have the right size socket and don't round it off, it'll be fine. Dealers will say to replace it because they want to charge you $20 for it

Why wasn't this posted in your original thread? It's all related.

sorry about that i didn't realize that you couldn't reuse the hub nut

thank ya'll for your help

I got the impact wrench in the mail $30 campbell & hausfeld 250lbs/ft torque
$80 (2) hub/bearing assemblies
$10 35mm impact socket
$25 upper and lower ball-joints (that sounds cheap for those ball-joints ,but the company looked legit and they were the correct ones)

$145 total..not too shabby, as longs as these aren't poorly made products..let's hope not
