Default Hub nut size?

I'm attempting to replace my hub/bearing assembly on my 01 Ram 3.9l, and I need to know what size socket to use to get the hub/bearing assembly off?

I've heard of the hub/bearing assembly being tough sometimes to pry loose once the nut is off, does anyone have any cool tricks to get it off if this does happen?

Thanks a lot

Jesse D.

1-11/16" is the size I used on my old 95 when I changed my hub bearing assembly... yes getting free was a challenge.. tools recommended... big hammer, a lot of PB Blaster, and some wedges and pry bars. Soak everything down with PB Blaster to begin with even the hub nut. Then to get the hub assembly loose...use the hammer and beat the the outter flange outward to create gap and place to pry...spraying PB blaster in that gap will help out the process as well as going around the hub keep it straight and even will help too. The dust covers will probably suffer some damage in this process, since it is sandwiched in between there, but nothing that can't be straightened out. Another thing I learned the hard way, even though you may be only doin one side, jack the entire front of the truck up so you will be able turn the wheels to be able to get a socket on one of the star headed bolts on the back side of the bearing assembly

A search provided 35mm. How true? I don't know. But it came from Aims, so it's probably pretty reliable.

I have had bad experiences with 'cheap' sockets..... they like to break at the least opportune times. I grew tired of coming to, on the ground, with folks standing around me asking if I am 'all right'...... and having yet another new knot on my head...... Last time, I was trying to take off lug nuts on my truck, leaning heavily on the four foot breaker bar to get one to break loose, I heard something break, and then I was lying on the ground, with a crowd....... Seems beating my head against the side of the truck when the socket blew into six pieces knocked my out for about two minutes..... I had a terrible headache for a few hours.......

Default Replacing Hubs (2wd)?

2001 3.9l, 2wd.

I've ordered the 35mm impact socket for hub nut removal, so I'm almost ready.

Does anyone know why it says not to re-use the hub nut?

Has anyone re-used it?

Also, I'm ordering an pneumatic impact wrench, really don't want to spend more than $40 on
one. Amazon has some good deals, I'm guessing 250 ft/lbs would suffice for general use on automotive?

There are lots of brands for my price range, does anyone have a suggestion as to the best bargain (i.e. durability, etc)?

Thank you

Jesse D.
