newbie with power steering questions
Hi all, I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 and need help.
My power steering pump blew on me about 5 miles from home.
It took be 2 quarts of fluid to get it home. The fluid is all over the place under the hood and leaks when the truck starts up.
I figure I have to change the power steering pump but can't find any information on how to do it.
I googled it and it brought me to this site.
I need to find out any information on changing my Power steering pump and haven't found any yet.
Any information on doing this would help, my wife has very important Dr appointments to get to next week and we don't have alot of money!

Direct yourself to the 2nd gen Ram forum and find the FAQ/DIY subforum, there you will find the thread with the Factory Service Manuals to download. We've got several of them now. I think one of them is a 96. Good luck with the truck and the doctor's appointments and welcome to DF.

Is the pump actually leaking or is it one of the hoses coming off the pump? If the pump itself is leaking, you can likely pick up a used pump from a pick-and-pay style junk yard on the cheap or check your local craigslist in the auto parts section.
