Default trans issues

So it seems like on cold mornings it wont go into gear unless i give it a little gas or if I just sit there long enough it will eventually go into gear, also sitting at a stop sign regardless of temperature it will go out of gear. It does not slip/rev while driving just at a stand still or gear selection.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

I don't know much about diagnosing a transmission, but have you deleted your check valve in the transmission line? I've heard that if you do that, you should let your truck idle for 30 seconds or so before putting it into gear so that the torque converter can get fluid flowing through it again. If you just start the engine and put it into gear without a check valve, I think you go nowhere until it gets fluid flowing. I don't think that explains the stop light issue though. Maybe somebody with more trans experience will chime in.

TC drainback might cause this. So can bands that are out of adjustment.

It's not the check valve. If it does it at first start up maybe. But not after driving and starting off from a stop sign.

+1 on low fluid. check fluid on level ground, engine running - transmission in NEUTRAL, not park. dip stick can be a little hard to read, reading low on one side and high on the other. i always go with the side of the lowest reading.

use ATF+4 fluid only.

The torque converter and stator, when operating properly, allows you to pull up to a stop light without the engine dying. It also multiplies torque for a short bit to get you moving again quickly, if working properly and finally locks up at cruising in 3rd or OD. Could be low pressure problem if it shifts up through the gears fine once your going. Just thinking out loud,

Check fluid. Smell and visual also. Clutches are slipping. Period. Either not enough clamping pressure, excessive wear, adjustment, etc. If fluid smells burned, prepare for rebuild. It's coming.
