For what it's worth - Greyhound is the absolute cheapest shipping for huge items. I ship bumpers, large engine parts, etc with them all the time. It's inconvenient (have to drop at a station, and can only ship to other stations), but the savings is well worth the hassle.

Gaius: yep! Compression is good!
#1 - 140 # 2= 140 # 3= 145 #4=140 #5=135 #6= 145 # 7= 140 # 8 = 143
Fuel Pressure: STATIC = 46 psi: Running = 48 - 52 psi. Hard to say exactly neddle is a blurr!
Vacuum Check with gage tapped directly into manifold = 14 PSI!!!!!
At 1000 RPM drops down to about 4/ So the time chani is FUBAR'D Have a new set coming tomorrow morning!
Changed out the IAC - didn't make a difference!
Will update ya all tomorrow after I finish the timing chain and sprokets!

While you are in there and if you plan to keep the truck a while, might want to consider adding a timing chain tensioner, too. This should keep your valve timing rock solid for a long time, as the chain naturally stretches..

A Dog: Yeah, I looked into that as well. BUT, the 98's come with a timing chaintensioner, from the factory. According to the Dodge mechs here in town, this one , from the factory has plastic teeth. ( or maybe it was plastic covered teeth- can't remember what he said!!) And they will wear out. From what i found on this truck, other then the work I've done, everything is factory original. So , hopefully, the new timing chain and sprockets will make this problem go away!!!! ????? LOL LOL My noggin is getting sore and hurts badly from whacking it against the wall!! But geez, it feels so good when I stop!!!LOL

Yes, factory timing gears tend to be plastic coated and plastic coating breaks off over time. Along with chain stretch, timing becomes slack and sometimes jumps. Didn't know that '98 Magnums come with the tensioner from the factory (my '96 didn't have one) - once you get the timing cover off, let us know what you find...

Will do! Ya betcha!! As far as I can discern, the 98's were the only year they put chain tensioners on there! BUt as always, I stand to be corrected!!

OK. Swapped out the timing chain and sprockets. It IS running a bit better. Not bogging down, nor does the idle drop off to the dieseling point like before.
Put the Vacuum gage on it - IT"S STILL TOO LOW!! It's up to 15 inches of MAP from 14!! Stuck the code reader on it - Nothing stored BUt two pending codes! P0133 - O2Sensor circuit slow response Bank 1 Sensor 1 AND P 0171- System too lean Bank 1.
Beats the crap outa me!! Tomorrow I'm gonna hit the parts store and plug off everything on the Plenum and check the MAP again!! Doesn't make much sense to me!! Fuel pressure is great, Compression is great!!
I'm definitely stumped on this one!! Oh, the fan clutch was FUBARD so I changed that out as well. Als stuck a new gasket on the top and bottom of the Throttle Body!!
