Is it that common that the rotors to warp in a yrs time. I have post this before and it doesn't seem like the rotors last too long.

Question 2 is does anyone know of a place to get the crystal clear headlamp at a low price.

 

Rotor warpage = excessive heat. Either riding brakes, calipers dragging, cheap rotors....

 

I had that issue using bottom of the line Napa rotors and pads, went thru 2 sets in less than a year and they were wearing unevenly. Decided to get the high grade alloy rotors and high grade pads from Napa, It's been a couple years and I've had no issues anymore. I have found that no matter what the parts outlets say the new rotors need to be machined before installation. They are always a little warped.

I replaced my headlights with OEM style from ebay they were about $90, they are just as good, exact replica of stock headlights.

 

I have a stick, and have driven mostly on flat land, so I suspect that I would get better life out of brakes than many.

I got about 97,000 miles on the original front brakes... a skim of the rotors and new pads was all that I did.

I'm now over 154,000 miles and still doing fine on the new pads and original rotors.
The kicker is, I'm still on all original rear brakes.

Stock rotors seem reasonably thick, and even after a skim I wouldn't expect them to be susceptible to warping unless used really hard.

The lack of a previous response might also suggest that rotor warping is not common.

 

Becker the lights your talking about are those the clear ones. The rotors we pare from napa the ones before that I think we're from autozone.

That's some amazing brake life! I'm on hills all day long in the NW, very hard on brakes with how heavy our trucks are.

Yes, just the original clear nothing fancy headlights from ebay. Mine are sport model(4 bulbs), then there's the non sport(2 bulb) make sure you get the right ones. Think the non-sport version is harder to find in plain clear.

 

I must admit, I'm also amazed at hole long they've lasted.
I've driven stick all my life, and down-shifting as a braking technique is second nature... I'm sure this helps extend brake life.

Oh, and I double clutch on down-shift if braking hard (easier on the synchro's).

 

Make sure your rears are good. If the fronts are doing all the work, they will warp soon enough.

 

i run a contractors 1500. its always loaded and weighs 6400lbs 100% of the time. the front brakes work TOO hard. rams in general "nose dive" when braking. the proportioning valves use 70/30 ratios. to fix this i replaced the 15/16ths rear wheel cylinders with 3500 1 1/8th rear wheel cylinders. WOW!
frt brakes last and no more warping!

 

My grandpa used to tell me about people's rotors warping because they would get hot and they would back their boat down the ramp and submerge the hot rotors.
