I just bought a 2001 Dodge Ram with 123,000 miles, but from a private seller, not a dealer. I was told that the service engine light that was on was just for a switch and that it would cost $15 to fix it. Took it to an auto store and used the code reader but it kept saying it couldn't link. I just went out and did the 3 key cycle and came up with code P0601. The truck runs great, and they guy said the light has been on for a while. Can I just keep driving it with the light on and the PCM like this?

Disconnect the battery for about five minutes to clear the codes. The code you are getting is for some manner of internal pcm failure.... if it comes back, look at replacing it before it leaves you stranded somewhere.
