Default OBDI tuning

Ok so this is my first post in this section second on the forum in total. I have done a lot of reading and have found enough on here to guide me through this particular engine for a cam swap which is pretty straight forward for anyone who is mechanically inclined.

So my dilemma is. The truck in my sig. OBDI. I just installed a comp 20-744-9. It is the XE258 grind. So far so good. The computer is learning very slowly whats going on. Everytime I drive it I notice a power increase. But my truck being OBDI is so far limiting me to my "tunability". I have searched but have found nothing but one dealership that flashes the computers and they are about 50/50 on reviews I have read. I actually called my dealership and asked about a fuel sync and they acted like I was crazy. I need to know is there anyway to tune my truck so I can get the most out of this cam swap. My gear ratio by seat of the pants feel is a 3.55. I turn roughly 1500rpm in overdrive at 60mph with 285 tires. Gears are in the very near future probably 3.92 or 4.10. Just wondering is there any way electronically to get more out of this truck. Mods to date are as follows:
1.Ebay cheapo shorties
2.Comp 20-744-9 cam
3.Comp double roller timing set.
4.Comp valve springs
5.Jegs Offroad Y-pipe into flowmaster with single 3" tailpipe cutoff at spare tire.
6.New Dist. cap, cam sensor, 8mm wires, rotor button and NGK FR4 plugs
7New bosch O2 sensor
8.180* stat
9.I have a TB I modded to 52mm straight through working on butterflies now but haven't installed and the plenum fix.

Primary use: DD, pulling boat and hunting. Commute to work is 3 miles round trip. Commute to lake is 24 miles round trip. Hunting 48 miles round trip.
Truck has 139,000 and is an auto.

SCT 9550 is an option. Check with HemiFever. There is also a place in Martinsville, VA that deals with flashing your existing PCM - http://www.bgperformance.com/

Unfortunately, the OBDI tuning options for the Dodge JTEC interface are extremely limited. If you find otherwise, please share, especially if you find decent do-it-yourself tuning options.

The SCT 9550 wouldn't work on your truck anyway as you have a OBDI truck, dunno why he mentioned it.

You'd have to send your PCM out to a vendor to have them tune it. Even then it's a crapshoot.

Mopar PCM may work out. If not, it's not economically or logistically practical to send out the PCM for tuning, at that point, Megasquirt.

Or a carb if you're some kind of barbarian.

The mopar performance PCM has a disclaimer that says not for use in towing applications I am guessing because of the timing advance and the timing curve that's programmed into it. I am going to give it a few more days and see what the computer is going to learn on its on. I will update in a couple of days with results. Not too crazy about a carb. Is there a way to do a carb but still keep my on board diagnostics to blink codes and stuff out.

I mentioned the SCT 9550, as I have one and it works on my '96 Ram 2500, which is OBDI. While the 9550 may be discontinued, it can be found used. Once you have a good unlocked 9550 unit, all you need is the canned tunes from HemiFever. I'd contact HemiFever with any questions you may have regarding the 9550 unit.

You can also contact these folks (http://www.bgperformance.com/) with your tuning needs and they will upgrade your PCM and send it back to you.

Just FYI, if you're using an SCT 9550, your truck is OBDII.

OBDII started in 96, not 97.
