My transmission is slipping in overdrive when running the A/C on hot days. The truck has the factory external transmission fluid cooler sandwiched between the radiator and the A/C condenser. I'm wondering if the heat load from the condenser is causing the slipping. The transmission has unknown milage due to being a used transmission installed by the PO prior to me getting the truck. Should I try remounting the cooler, flush it, or start planning for a transmission rebuild? I changed the fluids and filter yesterday. 2001 1500 with 5.2 and 46RE

You could try removing the check valve and getting a bigger aftermarket tranny cooler(do a search here on DF, lots of info on that) Also adding a tranny temp gauge will help a lot. I deleted the check valve a few months ago. Didn't clean the solenoids. What happens is the truck usually runs about 1900 Rpms at 70. With A/C on and sitting still long enough for the temp to start creeping up the Rpms move to 2200-2400 rpm. Once I get a nice long straight away with no traffic and consistent airflow at 70 the Rpms slowly move back to normal operating range. The factory cooler is pretty large. Probably 12x16.
