Default 46re transmission 1996 dodge ram 1500 4x2 5.2l

I have a automatic 46re jasper transmission.
Truck run great. Last week I got stuck in the mud, so I bounce back and forth from reserve to drive. Didnt make it. So I got tow out the mud. (I wasn't out on mudding) just daily driver. Once I got tow out. I put in reserve and back up then I put in drive, it wouldn't go anywhere. So I move down to gear 1 and 2, didn't move at all. Pretty much running on neutral. It still start up fine and go in reserve but my truck won't move in drive. I check my transmission fluid and smell on my dipstick, no burnt smell. Smell fine. I dropped my transmission pan to inspected. I am planning on buying two control solenoids and pressure solenoid. I also found my piston in transmission was loose. I checked my transmission filter, it was dirty and also got some shaving metal. I inspected the metal that attached to the pan, it look good to me. I scan my check engine light and all I got was overdrive solenoid .

Before I start buying parts, I wanna to know if anyone have this problem before.
I don't know it could be the sensors, solenoids or torque converter.
I know transmission isn't done bc it didn't fried or anything.

Thanks!!!

No metal chunks? Which piston was loose, and was it still in it' bore? How many miles since the trans was installed?

If reverse works, probably not simply a sensor issue. Depending on how bad the piston was, that might just be the problem.

No metal chunk at all. The piston located right beside governor solenoid.
Since the engine and transmission swap out and brought jasper engine and transmission. It has 154k on engine and tranny and 294 on the body.

Oh. My guess is your warranty is long since expired then.

Was the piston still sealing in its bore? If not, that would certainly give you issues.

A Jasper tranny with 154K on it ? That must be some kind of record, a factory tranny doesn't last that long. I have no idea what piston is being referred to. A picture would be good, but I'm thinking what you are talking about is the band adjustment lever being loose. Get a Haynes manual and adjust the bands too. Make sure you have the proper tools to do so.

Yeah little surprise. I mean it been taken care of. (:

Well some people called piston. Which I'm used to it.
Yeah it pretty much a lever that operate. One side is good. Other side beside solenoid was loose. Yes it still in bore and seal look great. Guess all I have to do is tighten and torque spec?

So you guys saying that could be the issue why my truck won't move in drive?

Not saying that's the problem. Just a less expensive suggestion to try before throwing in the towel .

So once I replace my solenoids and add new filter/gasket. Tighten my piston/lever. 4qt fluids.

If I put in drive and still won't move. What will be my next step?

Bc I really don't have time to drop the transmission and rebuild or maybe it could be torque converter.

Like I said transmission don't smell Burnt or no chunk of metal.
All I know it gotta be small minor problems!

You are looking for some kind of miracle. Replace the sensors and solenoid and see what it does. Try what has been suggested first. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you toasted it.
