Default on board diagnostic computer

Hi, I'm a new member. I have a 1998 dodge sst, I went to the inspection station to get my new sticker, and was told my obd won't communicate with their machine.
Does anyone have any ideas what I should look for first?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Be sure to report back, also a common issue on OBD vehicles in general, is that the ground wire on the OBD port gets disconnected or worn, and can't give enough ground to the tool to accurately do its job, so keep that in mind if nothing else works. Good luck and keep us posted
