Default 3 pin or 8 pin?

Hi guys-

First time poster, but have been browsing for a few weeks. I recently purchased a 95 Ram to plow my driveway with and make trips to the hardware store. I recently noticed the transmission not shifting properly and sometimes starting off in 2nd gear. Through all the reading I understand the best place to start is with the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. With that said I started looking at the Borg sensors and reached out to vendor on ebay who asked if I had a 3 pin or 8 pin case connector. He said that both were used in 95 and I wasn't sure how to determine this without having to drop the transmission pan. I'm not the most mechanically experienced person, but I believe I can get myself through this..

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

I had the same problem on my jeep grand cherokee, mine was the 8 pin. I do believe the trans wiring is different between the 2. I'll have to crawl under mine in morning and look.

95 Ram will have the 46RH, so, no governor pressure sensor or solenoid in there.

If you are having shifting issues, first place to start is make sure TV cable moves freely, and is adjusted properly. After that, time to drop the pan, and see what's up. Change the fluid and filter, and adjust the bands if you don't find anything ugly.

I thought it was the RE in the 95? My build date says 5-95 if that helps.. There really are no pressure sensor or solenoids?!?

No trans help here, but 5-95 is a 1995 model year.

If it said, oh, 12-95 that would be a 96 which could have an RE or RH.

Crawl under the truck. Look at the drivers side of the trans, toward the rear, there will be an electrical connector that plugs straight down, just above the valve body. Count the wires. 3 wires: RH, 8 wires: RE.

I am betting RH.

So if there are no sensors, why would the vendor be asking me if its 3pin or 8pin? That just doesn't make any sense to me.

There are still electronics even in the RH trans. TCC, and O/D are electrically controlled. That is all you will find on the RH versions, so, you only need three wires. Power, and control circuits for the two solenoids.
