thanks for the link man, i found a guy close to me sellin a 440/727 combo also that does run, for 300 obo... im thinkin bout tryin to get it. will it matter if the trans was for a 2wd or not? i mean all you gotta do is hook up the xfer case....

 

$300? IMO the engine itself is worth at least that.

I don't think the t-case will bolt up to a stock 2WD 727, I think you'll need a different tailhousing.

 

so then i need to find a 4wd 727?

 

I think so. But I'm not positive what differences there are.

You'll need to make sure it's from a 383/400 or 440 too, since I know for sure the bell housings are different from the BBs and the SBs.

 

Output shaft, and tailhousing are different. You could rebuild the trans, and install the correct shaft, tailhousing just bolts on.

 

ahh i see, thanks for the info guys, i suck when it comes to tranny's. maybe come tax season ill put th is idea into motion. and couple it with some swampers.
