The short arms are going to severely restrict flex. There are some good long arms out there that will give you more than you would have thought possible, but, they command a pretty good price too.... Easiest/cheapest? Probably converting to front leaf springs.

It doesn't cost much to build your own long arms from dom tubing and some heim joints, especially if youre the one doing the welding.

You can't have it both ways.............................................. ..............

As HeyYou said short arms are not going to give you any flex. The only way to get some flex out of your front end is to go long arm. Any lift over 3" should be a long arm kit on a coil spring suspension if you want it to work. So my only suggestion is to wait and save your money til you can afford to do it right. Going with leaf springs is like taking your fuel injection off and running a carb. You're going backwards if you go that way.

You can get a 3" lift with short arms that have a rubber joint on one end and a Johnny joint type on the other end. Make sure they are adjustable so you can center the axle. Then run a (I hate to say it!!) body lift and also get some fender flares that allow you to cutout the wheel wells. You'd be able to run 35" tires then.

I have then RC 5" Suspension lift with bigger coils up front and stacked blocks in back. Short arms though. I actually think it flexes good but I'm no off-roader.

i had a ram that flexed like crazy, actually got compliments on it, here is what i did.

3" lift coils in front with a 2.5" coil spacer. had stacked blocks in the back. also had a 3" body lift. i was also using short arms for a 3" lift. also make sure you have brake lines that are long enough for the flex your gonna have.

here is what i did to get a little extra flex, i took the sway bar off. also on the blocks in the back, i reversed the order of them. the lift block is supposed to go under the stock block, well reverse it, this way the bump stop has to travel further before it can hit the stock block stop. i also took out the front plastic wheel well liners.

hope this helps. good hunting

I reado n here about fabing control arms from tubing, Im wanting to take my off road edition up maybe 4-6 inches but anything over 3 requires new control arms, how would I go about getting the correct length of the upper and lower control arms? There is a shop here in town that will make anything out of steel or what ever you want and I think it would be cheaper than buying them, just not sure how to go about it

Mark where you want to put your rear mounts. Measure from center of mounting hole on axle, to center of mounting hole for new bracket. I suspect you will need to maintain the length difference relationship between upper and lower arms, so the axle will rotate properly to maintain driveline angles as well. Make sure at least one of your arms is adjustable. (preferably the lower.)
