Default EVAP question

Hello all new to the board. 1st Dodge I ever owned. 2001 2500 4x4. I'm starting to go through it slowly as I get a chance in between work.

I'm assuming it has the 26g tank in it. I just replaced the straps, as it was rigged with ratchet straps . After that I put in 18g's and it hit the 3/4 mark. Its throwing a code, place I got it from said evap code, removed it and it came back a few days later. Forgot to get the #, I'll get it checked again. Well I found 2 splits in the line in the engine compartment and a good split by the charcol canister. Fixed them both.

So the ?....By the manual it shows the 35g tank full shot. Front and rear rollovers come out of tank. My tank has both those rollovers T'ed together and going to the canister. The 35g does not show a front rollover valve coming out of the fuel pump assembly.....my tank has that also. The manual does not show a full tank shot of the 26/34g to see if it has a front rollover coming out of the front top of the tank like the 35g.

So my tank appears to have 1 rear rollover, and 2 front rollovers. One outta the top front(as in the 35g) and 1 outta the fuel pump assembly. The line coming outta the rollover from the assembly is plugged with a screw as of now.

How do I make this work? Will the code disappear after the truck is cycled enough times? Do I need to have the code removed to see if the problem is fixed? Its a bit confusing since I don't have a full view of the 26/34g tank.

Anyway thanks for your time, looking forward to this Dodge being a good work truck for me. I've been wrenching on 79' Ford F250, Jeep CJ's and TJ's, and a 2003 Tahoe. Dodge is new to me. The manual is nice, but forums can offer experience. Hopefully I can contribute back in due time.

You can reset codes by just disconnecting the battery, and turn the headlights on for a couple seconds.

Check the rest of your lines though. if you had a couple cracked, chances are good, there are going to be more. Thoroughly inspect ALL of them.

You can get a build sheet for your truck either from your local dodge dealer, or, there is a link in the faq section here, for an email request. That will tell you what your truck came from the factory with.

Short beds only came with the 26 gallon tank.

Welcome to DF!

Welcome to DF. Please add All the info about your truck to your sig and profile, thanks.

If you think you have all the hoses repaired, reset the pcm. Disconnect negative battery cable and turn headlights on for a few moments, turn headlights off and reconnect battery.

And get one of these for your truck. http://www.dodge.com/wccsapp/univers...ull&category=R

Thanks for the reply. Truck is standard cab long bed. I was pretty thorough on checking the lines. I'll reset the codes and look into the make build. I'll grab some gas hose and replace the hoses. If it pops up again, Ill get the code.

Something telling me its the screw plugged line coming from the fuel sending unit (rollover)?

The pump may have been replaced. The original pump may not have had that port. Either way, I'd remove the screw and replace with a rubber nipple for a better seal. and get the build sheet, lots of good info on it.

Great Idea on the nipple. I'm just about to send email to Dodge for info. Tank is definitely not the 26g. Using fish tank volume calculator, its probably the 35g(maybe 34). Must have the 34 or 26 sending unit in it. I'll know more after the facts from Dodge. The code is off for now, that's definitely gonna help me diagnose the problem. But raises eyebrows on the actual fuel in the tank. Low level Light was on when I added 18g, and the gauge read 3/4 full.......hmmmm.

This truck has some mods done to it....some sketchy...some not. Setup to be a plow truck, but now it has to be concrete 1st, plowing 2nd. Shes comin around, feeling more comfortable by the day =). BTW any links to good side mirrors like the big ones the 2001ish F250's have =).

You guys are as cool as the Jeep Forum guys......good stuff.

Depending on the brand pump that was installed, some will come with that port and some without, even if it's it the right one for that capacity tank. But since your fuel gauge is not reading correctly and there is a screw in that port instead of a nipple, God only knows what pump the original owner installed. And if the CEL is staying off, that's a good thing for now.

Got the info from Dodge....thanks guys nice to know what came factory. All heavy duty, tow, service, snow plow, shocks. Anyway its got the 35g tank in it. Light came back on today, but didn't do anything to it over the weekend. This afternoon I used a vacuum plug at the rollover at the sending unit and replaced some lines. 1 did have a hole I missed in a line by the canister. Reset the light. Guess I'll find out in a few days if I have it figured out.

Thanks for your time folks.

If that doesn't fix it, try a new gas cap.
