Here is my experience with the OEM gasket work this year.

I'm not preaching it's better/worse. I've installed the Hughes kit on a friends rig w/o issue after almost 2 years. I'm not aware of any issues with that one. I have no experience with the one on Ebay.

You really won't know for sure until you've taken the intake off and inspected the gasket. Right now, it's just an assumption based on your spark plug. I'd do a compression test before buying anything.

OK,

so I just drove the truck about 5 miles down to the local Oriely to get some tune up stuff for my Jeep. (Cap, rotor, plugs, etc) and the truck was running way worse than before. Eratic low idle at every stop light, shuddering more frequently and longer. Pulled into the lot and pulled the codes again. Now its also throwing P0107, MAP sensor failure. So I grabbed a new MAP sensor since i was there anyway. Drove it home. Pulled the air cleaner off and swapped the new MAP in.

While I had the air cleaner off I decided to do the magnet on a stick test on the plenum plate just to confirm my suspicions further. Not only did the magnet stick to the bottom plate confirming it as steel, but when I pulled it out it had a good coating of oil on it. Confirming that there is oil in the intake manifold sitting on the plenum plate.

On the plus side the new MAP seems to have fixed the idle issue at least from a quick drive down the street to 7-11 and back.

Well for those of you saying my plenum was fine

Yeah, not so much.

Got the Hughes kit, tore the whole top end apart, threw the manifold in the parts washer and cleaned the hell out of it, put the Hughes parts in and got everything back together. I changed the plugs, wires, cap and coil. Fired it up. Now I am getting a knocking noise, sounds like a miss and sounds like it's coming from the number 7 cylinder. Waiting for the engine to cool back down so I can pull that plug out and check it. May not have been seated properly as that one is a pita to get to. After that I am gonna sea foam it and see what happens.

I don't see where the gasket blew out but maybe it's in the part of the pic that's cut off. That oil could of been from the pcv valve too. Go to the dealer and get that item as part of your plenum work. It's less than $10 I think. Don't get one from an autoparts store, dealer only.

Recheck your firing order, and plug wire routing.

Yep! found I had switched two plug wires at the cap. That fixed it. Took her for a spin around the block and seems to be good to go

Yeah, when you hit overdrive, makes it feel like the truck is going to shake itself apart. (don't ask how I know this. )
