Default 1997 1500 egr transducer problems

I have a 1997 1500 5.9gas. I belive my EGR transducer is pluged up and in need of changing. when i start up the truck it will idle untill it starts to warm up. It will then proceed to start loading up on fuel and eventually die, unless I hit the gas. After burns off all that fuel it will will run fine untill the next time it is started.

The problem is finding the right transducer. (the previous owner dropped in a 2001 motor.) Every parts store I go to will try and give me one that looks like this http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...parttype=16164

but what i need is one that looks like this http://www.streetperformance.com/aut...d/3115-6058vc/

my emission vacuum lines simply will not work with the first but will with the second, which is on my truck now.

Do i get the transducer for a dakota? or am i missing something here?

You are missing something. I think what you are actually looking for is the canister purge valve. (for evap emissions.) Your truck shouldn't even have EGR.

am i correct to assume I should replace the charcoal canister as well? seeing as the purge valve is plugged?

no. just run the old can. blow all the lines out. fill the can with carb clean or brake clean. blow the can out. replace the tank purge solenoid. put it all back together and enjoy. even if the charcoal dont work the truck will never know. after all its the filter than plugs up the vac lines. less charcoal in there the better!
