Service A/T
All~ I'm dropping my transmission pan on a 47RE early 98 12 valve. While I'm inside the cover I would replace filter, and the solenoid and Governor and adjust the bands. My question is what are the correct solenoids to replace. Lock up solenoid complete w/OD and the Governor pressure solenoid? Is there an output sensor also? Best fluid? Also are the after market parts more robust than OEM. Additionally where to purchase, Thanks
Borg Warner makes a 'heavy duty' governor solenoid, there is a seller on Ebay that has them, with a new pressure sensor as well, for around 100 bucks.
Use ONLY ATF +4 trans fluid. Brand is pretty much irrelevant. Wal-Mart has it for cheap. (relatively speaking.)
Other solenoids are TCC, and O/D. If they aren't causing a problem, I wouldn't bother replacing them. No heavy duty units in the aftermarket I am aware of.
Make sure to have six to eight quarts of fluid on hand when you drop the pan. Some seem to take more to refill than others.
