Hey all, im thinking of replacing my muffler on my 98 ram 1500 5.2 v8. Ive heard some really good things about flowmaster. Im looking for a deeper sound, thats more audible, but I would prefer to not wake up the entire neighborhood. What mufflers do you all recommend? I was looking at the flowmaster super 40, thoughts?

 

Check out youtube for various videos of different mufflers. Will at least give you an idea of what they sound like in 'real life'.

A super 40 is going to be fairly loud. I had on my 5.9. I loved the sound though. I put a magna flow on my 5.2 and it is pretty quiet for an aftermarket. I believe the case is a 22" case, 28" overall, so pretty good size. I think the bigger case reduces noise.

 

I just put an 8"x5"x24" c-c 3" Magnaflow on my 5.2... absolutely love it.
Clean crisp deep V8 sound without being too loud... no hiss or crackle.

 

Glasspack.

I replaced my stock muffler with a Thrush glasspack. It didn't really get too loud, but it sounded pretty good. Had that deep, throaty rumble. Didn't really experience any droning at highway RPMs either. You can't beat it for $30

 

Look at either their 50 series Delta Flow or Super 50.

 

What muffler? No literally, I have no muffler.
