Default Low Air Flow from HVAC

1997 Ram 1500 5.9L A/T 170,000 miles, purchased new.

I have low flow coming out of the heater vents. The mode switch works O.K. feet, dash, feet + dash, defrost, recirc all behave properly. The fan speed changes and the flow changes, but the flow is very much reduced.

Thanks

John Katos

Got leaves and such clogging the intake?

Can drop the blower motor, and have a look inside, see if you have a bunch of trash up against the a/c evaporator core.... (it's RIGHT there by the fan.)

Yep there's not a can filter or anything like that. It loves to suck up leaves

Can snow do the same thing-like the leaves? I am getting no air coming out of my vents but it sure sounds like it is working. I can switch high to low but still no air.

Anything can block air flow. See if you can't clean everything off, and take it from there. If that doesn't help, post up in the third gen ram section. I think your system is somewhat different than ours.

The only stupid question is one that isn't asked.

Rams currently have four "generations". From the main forum page, if you click on the "Ram Trucks" header, it will show all four generations of ram trucks (complete with pics!) and what years they are. First gen goes to 93, second gen is 94-2001, 3rd gen is 2002 to 2008? I think.

You think?

@Wollman, 3rd gen Ram is here >> https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-ram-tech-65/

Although common problems may go across "generation" lines, the guys in the 3rd gen section can help you with specifics.....they can help you better as they drive and work on the same "generation" of Ram as yours. Welcome to the forum!
