Angry 4wd will not engage after transmission rebuild

I recently had my 1998 Dodge Ram's transmission rebuilt and put in by a mechanic, my 4wd worked just fine before I had a transmission rebuild this last week. After getting my truck back I noticed that my check engine light didn't illuminate with the the key in the ON position, It finally snowed here today and I went to go put it in 4HI and nothing happened it didn't engage and there was no light on the dash, no matter what, I couldn't get 4HI or 4Lo engaged. I also noticed the 4WD light does not appear when I turn the key to the ON position. It really pisses me off after I paid $1800 for transmission rebuild and new torque converter and instillation and I get stuck with these problems. Maybe they didn't hook something back up right or didn't hook a vacuum line back up for the Transfer case? Any Ideas? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Alec

Probably forgot to hook up the vacuum harness on the t-case.

I don't think the 4x4 light tests at startup.... mine doesn't, but, mines a 96....

Thanks for your input, Im going to contact the mechanic on Monday, Is it easy to get under there an see if its not hooked up? because If can get away without having to drive 20 miles to the shop for them to hook it up I would just get under there and hook it up.

Yeah, the switch on the t-case is right by the shift linkage. I don't think it is real easy to see.... but, if you feel around up there, shouldn't be too hard to find. (you DO have three elbows, right?) Vacuum harness runs down from the back side of the motor, on the passenger side, over the top of the trans. Hopefully, its just that easy.

Ok, I will pull it into the garage tomorrow and look up underneath. Hope it's an easy fix.

A photo to at least give you an idea where and what you are looking for. The vac harness that plugs onto that switch can only go on one way. That switch is threaded into the xcase.

You didn't get low range when you shifted into 4L? If not, check that the T case linkage is hooked up.

Thanks for the pic , I will give it a look. I still will be able to put it into 4lo even if the vac switch isn't hooked up or there's no vacuum?
