Default v10 won't run, HELP!

Hello all! New member and first post. Hope y'all can give me some help. I have a 99 v10 ram, I can't get to run. It will crank and crank and backfire thru the throttle body, and every once in a while catch just right and fire right up and run fine while in park, but will die as soon as its put in gear. I've put a new fuel pump in and cleaned the throttle body. I'm stumped.

Make sure you are getting fire on all ten cylinders. Your engine uses coil packs, with control modules. There are two modules, on controls four cylinders, the other controls the remaining six. Check that first.

Welcome to DF.

I'll check that, but since it does start ever so often i'm thinking it has spark? Also the check engine light is not on, and there was no codes when I ran a code checker on it.

how does it run when it actually does start? Is it nice and smooth? Or does it run rough?

When it does fire up it runs perfect, idles perfect, you can rev it over and over and it'll never miss a beat but as soon as you put it in gear (its an automatic btw) it stalls. I did put it in 4lo tugger other day and it idled itself around about 30 ft before stalling.

auto-complete needs a bit of an education.

any codes? Gotta be a sensor going bad.

Nope, no codes. I assumed it was a sensor too, but I really don't wanna just cross my fingers and throw money at it lol.

Yeah, that's gonna be a fun one to figure out. I think I would go thru and check all my electrical connections first. Make sure everything is clean and tight.

Next time it doesn't wanna start, see if you can find out what's missing.... spark, or fuel.

Won't run in park though...... does the truck just lurch and quit when you put it in gear? Or does it just slowly idle down and die?

It acts like the ignition gets turned off once you select drive. the engine instantly turns off
