transmission problems! please help

Let us know what ya find.

If the temp reads even close to ambient when stone cold, start it up, and drive it, and see what temp does.....

What you need to do is pull the governor pressure sensor, and solenoid from the original trans, along with the retaining clip, and install them in the new trans. Should solve your issue. (or, you can pick up new ones, but, you still need the older style retainer.)
do you have to install the harness too when using original sensor and solenoid or can you splice in the connector?

Not sure on that. I *think* that the only connector that is different is the one for the pressure/temp sensor.
