Clutch engagement questions
I have a question about the clutch engaging very high.
It's a 97 1500 4x4 that was originally a 318 but was recently swapped to a 360. It seems to go into gear and shift smooth but very high up on the pedal. He says there was a clutch put in with the swap.
Is this normal or am I looking at doing a clutch right away if I buy this truck?
Is there something between the 318 and 360 that would cause it?

Sorry, I read it the wrong way... engagement close to the top is good.
I have a new(er) clutch in mine... there's ~1/2" of free play to take up the slack on the peddle, then much over an 1" more and the clutch will start to slip if you apply power.
The clutch starts to engage when the peddle is about half way up off the floor, so you could say the clutch operation is in the 1/2-3/4 travel range.

This one seems to be excessive travel from the floor before it starts to accelerate, if that makes sense....
Probably at least 2/3 of the way up if not more.
Maybe it's normal for these trucks though, haven't had a dodge with a standard since my 79 short box.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way you want it. When it starts doing its thing close the floor, its getting on toward 'new parts' time.
