Default no spark

So yesterday when we got into the truck to leave the job it started hard. But made it home the 30 miles. My wife got in it to leave after I got home and it would not start for her. She came in and told me so I went out and tried it started right up. No problems this morning either started right up. Well we got some supplies for the job and went to start the truck it wouldn't fire. So we had to push it off from the 150 ft loading dock. And sat there for an hour waiting for a tow truck. I tried it one more time and it started. So I headed to napa thinking that it needed a tune up (my step dads dodge had the same problem ended up being a tune up.) I got to napa shut the truck off and went to start it and it seemed like it wanted to start but didn't have a strong enough spark to light the mixture off. So I changed the plugs and wire dizzy, button. Still didn't want to start So I pulled number one spark plug and started doing a spark test nothing from the coil or number one plug wire. So I changed the coil out still nothing. Didn't even want to fire. So I bought a code reader and it's pointing to a camshaft position sensor. The only thing Napa carries is the whole dizzy for $174.00 plus a 74 dollar core. Would the Cam sensor really kill the spark. I mean there is no power coming off from the coil.
Thanks
Adam

I found a Distributor Ignition Pickup is that another name for a cam position sensor. it looks like it and will fit my truck. The only thing I don't like about it is it's from advance. But it's the only place I can find it.

Camshaft sensor (found in the dizzy) controls fuel injectors.
Crankshaft or CKPS sensor is the trigger for spark.

The CKPS is on the back on the motor behind the pass head, a real pita to change out.

Put the new part in try it if it works fine and good if not remove it and return it. Then change out the ckps. Any other codes at all? Have you changed out the dizzy cap yet?

Hello, I also have changes my Ignition Coil and Crankshaft Position Sensor 4 Times since I owned my truck. So far last year I had changed it twice after getting stuck on side of road. They were Auto Zone Parts Parts are not made with good quality anymore or stamped USA... After changing them truck ran fine. Never had any codes? Good Luck Warren

Trouble is, we don't know just what criteria the PCM uses to decide to set a cam sensor code. It may be annoyed that it is getting signal from the cam sensor, but, not from the crank sensor, so, sets a cam sensor code.... when all the while, it is the crank sensor that is bad. Of course, I could be full of it too....

What we could really use, is a PDF copy of the diagnostic manual, that is a companion book to go with the service manual. I see them on EBay once in while, but, not in electronic format....

Perfect!!! In my case after I changed my Pick up Coil and Coil Pack my plug wires Holders broke and they fell against the manifold and melted which shorted out my Pick up coil and Coil Pack again. Lucky Auto Zone carries a Lifetime warranty (LIMITED) Due to purchase date. After that I now have a skip in idle and now keep getting code on miss fire on random cylinders? I have changes all my items again and cap rotor plugs wires, All electronic sensors Map, Idla Air, TPS, I even changed the Injectors but still have the same issue. Now I was told the ECM Module is Bad. I give up and now live with a skippy truck.....

Do a compression test.

Also, make sure your plug wires are routed per the TSB in the faq section.
