Default Hypertech tuner for a 96?

Hey guys,
Found a hypertech power programmer iii for a 97 ram 318 unlocked on craigslist. Talked to hypertech and basically they said they dont support it anymore and cannot verify if it will work on my 96 318. Anyone know if it will? Seems to me it should, from reading on here not much changed from 96-97. Thanks

Alot changed from 96-97 IIRC. Obd1-2 mix to straight obd2. I wouldnt get a hypertech for these trucks youd be better off buying an sct with a hemifever tune. Youll get way more out of it. Im not sure if 96 is supported though, youd have to email and ask Sean at Hemifever. Your truck the all obd1 96 or the half n half? Do you get p-codes or the two digit system? The first half of 96 was all OBD1, the second half was a mix of ob1 and obd2 IIRC. I could be wrong though... someone correct me if I am.

So far as I know, hemifever is the ONLY one that supports tuners for the 96-97 trucks.

Better choice there man you'll be much happier with the Hemifever SCT then that hypertech. If it even worked haha.

"hypertech power programmer iii" will be vin locked anyway, do not buy it, unless you want to spend the 100 or so plus shipping, just to have Hyper change the vin.

This might be more affordable for you if you can find one.

the 97 hypertech won't work on anything other than a 97. they are very year specific. and - like they said "they don't support then anymore".
