Ha ok, we'll I'm going through summit and jegs for all my performance parts. Or at least most if them. I think I'm going to hold off on twins fir now and just mild build the engine and go from there.

Thanks and how much horsepower are you pushing? And just for a couple bolt on parts until I get a donor what upgrades would u prefer? Like ignition up grades? Just cheap ones

I have never and will never post what I think I make for hp until it goes on a dyno, sorry bud.

Fix the plenum, full tune-up, then get a sct tuner, then a free flowing exhaust system. As you see most here don't mess with upgrading the ign system.

But before any of this is done like we all say do a comp or leakdown test BEFORE you spend any money on performance parts.

Save you money up for a set of new heads, good place to start about $600+

That's not how it works, like not even remotely. Back away from the posting and do much, much more reading.

I'm gna come back to the twins in about a year. But look up "turbo bogger" on YouTube. Exactly how I was going to do mine but with fuel injection and twins.

But I think I'll come bck to that idea and just build the motor then see how it goes from there

Thanks merc! Your quite helpful ha I'm not a expert but ik more then just basics speaking as of my dad's been a mechanical since he was old enough to pick up a wrench.

But the SVT tuners, do they really do that much? Like are they like programmers on diesels where they have different levels or settings?

And also 2 things from eBay I'm looking to try out.
1) a air intake
2) there's chips on there that are like 20$ and I wanted to know if I thought they'd work or not?
3) I'm sure you've seen/heard of the little fans that u put in the intake pipes. "Electric Superchargers" ha I'm thinking about buying one or 2 of them and putting them in my intake just to see if they would help. Only 20$. But I feel like they would work, I don't see them giving like 10hp+ or anything that's rediculois. Just I think it'd help it run smoother.

Would this manifold work on the ram? As in work by keeping MPTB.

The SCT tuner makes a fair enough difference, and it holds several different tunes, but you do have to turn the vehicle off to switch between tunes.

The Chips on ebay are merely a resistor that hooks up into the TPS and fools the computer into making it richer. Absolute no-no on a stock engine. While some people may notice a difference, the PCM will either get confused and act up or will notice the difference and compensate to get back to the proper fuel ratio, and in turn often messes up other operating parameters. So all in all, not worth it.

And third, if your engine has almost 200K, it really just probably needs a rebuild. Adding much power to that engine has the risk of blowing out your bottom end. As said before, do a comp check to determine how worn out the engine is. But keep in mind, that this DOES NOT check for soundness of the bottom end, as in bearings etc. Adding too much power to a weak bottom end WILL end up kicking you in the rear (I've actually seen this literally happen to a friend, part blew out of the bottom and hit him square on the rump. Ouch.) I blew every bearing in my engine (rod, main, AND cam) and sunk two lifters because I had a worn out engine. I should have rebuilt it from the ground up instead of modding it as it was. Granted, I only had 148K, but first off the odo was not the factory odo, so heaven knows how many miles it really had, and also I did many hours of work as compared to road miles, i.e. lots of work with not many miles but still using the engine, so it really was just worn out. Hate to see that happen to you.

Best bet would just be to take care of the engine as it is right now, do some more reading to gain knowledge, read COMPLETED and SUCCESSFUL build threads to get some good ideas, and SAVE $$$$. It takes green to work on any engine for any sort of modification. Then come back with some new ideas since you will probably have a little more knowledge and some ideas grounded better, and post it up for the guys on here who know all about these engines, such as Merc. There's a thousand possibilities (exaggerated) to make power, you want the one right for you.

1) What kind of air intake? Like a cold air intake? If so, there is an ongoing debate if they help or not.
2)Waste of $
3)I have never heard of anything like this. For $20 I would not waste my time, sounds like another one of those "tornado" deals

Many people have modified their stock manifold, but their are several good aftermarket intakes.

There are two types of intake manifolds: single and dual plane. Single plane typically give better high-end power, and dual planes will give better low end, such as is good for towing. I've got a dual plane Edelbrock intake manifold on my 318 and love it. It's quiet, and my engine makes great torque at the low end. Definately better than the stock manifold.

As far as CAIs go, the debate rages. In most cases, there is no need to get rid of the stock airbox, it will get air from the coolest location and is also very well insulated as is, and if you really are worried you can wrap it with some insulation, although that would be overkill on a stock engine. CAIs DO make the engine sound a little more growly, but more than that is a bit of a debate. I would personally suggest not laying cash out on a CAI but getting a good drop in air filter from K&N or something like it to use with the stock airbox. Most of the times, air intake temps will not be much of a concern with the stock air box.
