Default Synthetic sae 90 in differentials?

Is sae 90 that much different than 75-90 or 85-90 dino oil? Looking to change my 1/2 tons fluids...

I have a few gallons of the synthetic stuff. and looking to use it instead of buying the cheaper dino oil, but figured id see what you guys have for input. No towing, but it ranges from -20F to 110F here.

If you already have it..... might just as well use it.

If you have to buy fluid, I just stick with the dino stuff. It works, and its cheaper.

Don't forget the friction modifier if you have a limited slip differential.

Hehe.. Who'd want a 4bt

And I just saw this fluid is $27 a quart lol. Does the limited slip like something specific? I'm not sure mine is even working if its there...

With the added benefits of better fuel milage and longer lasting between changes with synthetic and a better quality product I'm surprised anybody uses the old dino oil anymore.

Better fuel economy? Seriously? With a diff fluid change? Maybe .001 mpg. Longer life isn't really relevant either, as most folks rarely, if ever... change the fluid in any event. (the folks here are not a representative sample of drivers at large.)

From what I have seen, the additional cost is NOT offset by any benefits of using a synthetic fluid. Especially not in the differentials.

I've been looking into this.

One guy drive a newer yota. And he kept meticulous records for mileage after a diff change to synthetic for 30,000 miles.

He found that you gained 1.37% in mpg.

And you only get your money back if you extend gear oil changes by the manufactures recommendation by 4x the amount.

Doesn't seem worth it to me. MAYBE if you tow REALLY HEAVY all the time. Maybe it would be worth it.

I really need to change the fluids in my 60s....
