Default temp sensor

Hello all. New to the forum, new to dodge. Got a sweet deal on a 98 that didn't run real great. It would stall. Cleaned Iac, fixed exhaust leak, and replaced temp sensor behind alternator. It was reading high. I replaced and got the code to clear. Now the truck is running pretty good. Seems like it loads up on fuel at a stop light but that's no big deal. I can figure that out. But I still have no coolant reading at the gauge. Just wondering if I'm missing a sensor somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

98 only has the one. Is the gauge not reading??

The PCM uses that same sensor, if it isn't getting a reading from it, it will run pig rich.

Going to move this thread to the tech section.

Oh sorry about the wrong forum. Correct. No reading. I have replaced it. Now what. It reads five volts. Isn't that correct. And if not what could the issue be?

Go to your local parts store, and plug one of their scanners into your truck. Should be able to read data from various sensors, see if the PCM is getting anything from the temp sensor.

What temp does the PCM think the engine is? Possible you have a failed thermostat?

I'm going to check tomorrow. I think the thermostat could be the issue. The heat gets warm.but Barely, the cab will warm up but not like it should. I am going to scan again tomorrow. I will update with codes and more symptoms.

Yeah, your heater should be able to burn you out of there in about an hour of driving, no matter how cold it is outside. Might just be an air bubble though. Need to verify the thermostat is working.

Ok. Thermostat is bad. I know that. Bought a new one. Scanned again today and got coolant temp sensor high. My truck is running rich as Hell. The sensor is brand new. Bad pcm? How do I test. It reads 5 volts?
