Default Truck almost killed me cruise stuck wide open

A little info on the truck its a 98.5 1500 4wd 146,000 miles single cab long bed 360 auto with 4.10 gears. Today driving to work I was cruising along at 55 and pushed cruise on then set the cruise I noticed that the truck was acclerating as I'm coming up to a red light, I tapped the brakes nothing still acclerating so I pushed coast truck down shifted and sped up more, I pushed cancel still nothing popped it out of gear and its pinned wide throttle open. So I shut it off coasted through the light onto a side road pulled over tried restarting same thing happened. I unhooked the cable on the inside of the bracket I'm pretty sure its the cruise cable because it was the only cable with tension and got it to drive home. Anyways thats where I'm at at this point the girlfriend is now scared to ride in the truck and doesn't want the kid in it until its fixed. Please direct me into what to do because with that cable disconnected its like its not getting full cable movement with the pedal and won't accelerate properly. Any ideas greatly appreciated thanks guys.

Eh. Just pull the plug on the cruise unless you feel like you rather have it. I haven't heard of this problem yet but it sounds like a wonderful computer error since it wasn't responding to your commands.

Is the cable binding?

Could be a selection of things, but, it SHOULD have 'let go' when you stepped on the brake. (that is what makes me think the cable is binding.)

I am thinking TV cable is binding as he now has a sluggish truck.

The only cable that had tension on it was the cruise cable I'm not sure if its still tight but that's the cable that had tension the tv cable was alright and throttle was loose

Disconnect the cable, and try your throttle. If all seems well, see if you can't pull the cruise cable, and see if its jammed up.

That's the problem I disconnected the cruise cable now it won't downshift and the gas pedal doesn't seem to open the throttle as far now

Which cable did you disconnect?

The one coming in from the rear is TV cable to trans.
The one furthest to the passenger side in the front is gas pedal.
The one to the inside of that one is cruise control

I unhooked the inside one for the cruise but now the truck won't downshift and doesn't seem like its getting full pedal movement
