There were several TSB`s, one covered the symptoms of a blown plenum gasket and the fix, and one covered a pinging issue were a software update (death flash) was used to fix the problem by reducing the timing. Either way, this was still a band aid fix.


So after lots of reading and searching on this issue, what I found was a lot of people have done with good results is going with a one step colder set of plug, and a 180* thermostat. I read this in a bunch of different places, even in old threads on this forum, and there results were a little more power and better gas mileage.


Im just posting what I found and the results. I will be doing these mods to my truck to my truck this summer and I will post the results.

The colder plugs do more than the colder thermostat. The 'newer'.... second gens were also much more sensitive to thermostat changes, the PCM's in them tend to get annoyed about the engine not getting up to temp. Some folks have troubles with it, others do not...... it's a crap shoot.
