Have a MPH and tire question
I have a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab 5.9L and the original tires are listed on the tag is 225/ 75 /R16xl and the tires that are on it right now 245 /75 /R16 and that makes my speedometer is already 4 mph slower than I am actually going, so my question is how bad would my Speedometer be off if I put on 265 /70 /R17 tires and rims on this truck ? I don't think there would be any clearance problems putting these tires and rims on my truck.
Thanks for any help you can come up with

Get your build sheet, (link to form in faq section.) What the tag says, and what the build sheet says, are sometimes two entirely different things. Believe the build sheet.

My truck had a perfect speedo reading with 245/75 R16s when I went to 265/70 R17s it made my speedo 5mph slower.
So I'm guessing if you have 245/75 R16s and it's already 4mph slower I'd say it might be close to 9-10mph slower.

I have 265/75/R16's on my 98 1500 and compared it to a traffic speed signal and my gps, it makes the speedometer exactly 5 mph slower in all speeds. If you have a smart phone download one of the speedometer apps to help verify your speedometer. I have to remind myself to go slower to avoid those pesky tickets!
