Default Carbed magnum 408

I'm gonna be putting my 408 together soon and I'm wondering how hard it would be to run a carb on it. Just because i know nothing about tuning an injected motor and just the price of it all. I know if have a check engine light on all the time. What would have to be done otherwise? I would run a la distributor correct?

You would also need to figure out how to run your gauges, and the transmission. Gauges aren't as much of a problem on the pre-98 trucks, but, the trans is completely electronically controlled. That will be a problem.

That makes life a little easier.

That would just leave gauges then. Tach, and speedo. Actually, I don't think the speedo would be an issue either... as the cluster gets its feed from the sensor, not the PCM.

PCM does voltage regulator as well.... have to go to an external.

Might be able to leave crank sensor hooked up, and let PCM read engine RPM, and tell the cluster...... just pull the bulb for the CEL.

If you want details on converting one of these trucks to carb PM me and I can help you through all the little bits I've done it already and can save you a LOT of headache.

I guess for me I would have to ask WHY?????
Why would you want to go backwards in technology and use a carburetor when you have a multiport fuel injection system in place already. For the price of a carb you can have a tuner from Sean/Hemifever and tune your truck. I guess I will never understand the whys. I 4 wheel a lot and ran carbs because the rigs I owned didn't have fuel injection. Since I started being able to afford newer rigs that have fuel injection I would never go back to a carb willingly. Even if you do go with a carb you're going to have to tune it somehow and having a air/fuel gauge will help in that just like it would if you were using a tuner.

Yeah, trying to get the floats set right, so the engine would run, but, not flood/stall out on steep hills, and strange angles...... I hated that. Even the center-hung dual float holleys were a pain in my ****.

Well wildman4x4nut, it's simply because I don't know anything about tuning an injected motor and the price of it. It's just not practical to me. I can build this motor with a carb for about 1000 less than fuel injection.

And mine doesn't have a factory tach so that won't be a problem either

The only carb that worked some of the was a Carter. And then I learned a ton of tricks on Webers when I had my Suzuki Samurai. It is one of the better off-road carbs.

It's your rig so you can do what ever you want with it. But I do not understand and never will. It is your choice but I don't see how you're saving any money. I didn't know anything about fuel injection before either but we all can learn. Plus you don't really have to know much as Sean from Hemifever does all the programing for you. That is what this forum is for too. We all help each other out when we don't know something.

I am not trying to pick on you so please don't get offended. If I say something that comes out wrong I apologies now.
