new timing chain installed

#1 should be marked on the cap. With number 1 at TDC, firing position, the rotor should be pointed at the notch in the distributor body. Firing order from there is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2. Clockwise rotation.

It point at six tower but my wires don't reach

If it is pointing at six, you need to roll the engine over once.

then what I've got it out back together already but I can tear back into quick and how much slack should I have in the chain

No need to tear it apart, with the plugs out, just grab the crank pulley, and roll the motor over by hand. It'll be stiff, but, it's doable.

Turn the engine so the rotor points at the number 1 post on the distributor cap. Set up your plug wires accordingly. If you haven't moved the distributor, or turned the cam/crank independent of each other, it should start and run.
