Default Smoke from Vents?

Hey guys, I have discovered something strange... I noticed that when I first turn on my heater that there is a strange smell for a few seconds, I didn't think anything of it the first few times, assuming something must have fallen in my vent or something. The smell never went away though... I also noticed that my heater doesn't work very well. It's only warm at low speeds, if I turn it up past 2 it's not warm at all. Furthermore, I noticed that when I drive around with the heater off, white smoke comes out of my vents with that same strange smell, but only if the temperature is set to hot. If the fan is off but the temperature is at cold, no smoke comes out. If it's at hot and smoke is coming out and I change it to cold without turning it on, the smoke will stop coming out. Anyone have any idea what it could be??

Bet your passenger side floorboard is getting wet too.... Sounds like the heater core sprung a leak.

Well, 5 months later and I am finally getting to my heater core. I was putting it off seeing as how I didn't need the heater, but now when I have the AC on, my passenger floor mat gets wet, and I have been loosing coolant... I just got a bonus at work, so I'm doing a full tune up, bought some new tires, and tackling my heater core! Bonuses are great! Any helpful tips or warnings before i start tearing my dash off?

Read the DIY for replacing the heater core and you'll be fine.

Well I got the job done. Was a pain with my cracked dash, which is now even more cracked, but was able to do it all in about 3hrs. Heater works great now, temp is normal, and everything seems to have gone well. DIY helped a lot! Thanks guys!
