i have a 2001 ram 1500 with the 5.9 and 160,000 miles when hit 77 mph it starts to grind and i dont know what it could be if its like the output on the transfer case that broke and is loose or if wheelbearings are bad or a ujoint is gone because the trans just got rebuilt like a month ago and its still bad. Any help is very appricieted.
Drop the rear driveshaft, pull the tailhousing off the t-case. See if the snap ring that is supposed to be right next to that rear bearing is still there.
I said DRIVESHAFT not AXLE SHAFT. The big tube that goes to the rear pumpkin>? Yeah, that one has two u-joints in them. I would never ever have supposed you were driving 77mph in 4 wheel drive on pavement.
