Well, if it starts and runs, then things are apparently working as they should. Maybe it has just gotten quieter with age, or, you have a full tank of gas?

well i could hear it a few weeks ago. no about a quarter tank. What controls the fuel pump to prime when the keys turned on?

Sounds like the pump is gettin a little weak since u can't hear it anymore combined with the hard to cold start ... mine is doin the same thing on cold starts and I've fuel flushed and ran several bottles of sea foam through it .. I'm just gonna ride it out till she quits.
Good luck

Same circuit for priming as for running when engine is actually running. PCM will "prime" the fuel pump for about three seconds. If it doesn't see the engine turning (via cam, or crank sensor) it will shut it off.

What is a good aftermarket fuel pump? Mopar is 250.00. rather not pay that much but i don't want some junk either. i found some for 70 bucks. That can't be good.

Delphi is OE and should be the only one used. Carter/Airtex are junk and should be avoided at all costs. Check Rockauto first, they are significantly cheaper than stores like Autozone or Advanced. Or you can pull the Part # from Rockauto and use it to find the cheapest price elsewhere.

I had put in a Spectre from Advance. Went in with no problems and didn't have any problems with it. Although I sold the truck about 2 months after I put it in.

No i have just let it be until it goes out on me, 99% sure it is the fuel pump, just never got around to rent the fuel tester. If you want to be certain rent the tester and check your pressure. it is really easy it just screws on the port on the fuel rail. When mine gets worse ill test and replace, its just not bad enough to matter to me yet. mine starts first time every time still. its hardly even a long start in the mornings too. good luck
