I also found a exhaust bolt that backed itself out.. There is where my exhaust tick was coming from. same location I always hear it.

I went and picked up my new Balancer today. It came with a new keyway. I went back to my pics (the pic above with the new chain installed) and checked how the old keyway looks on the crank gear and there is a lot of "space" between the keyway and the actual gear..

So I pulled the chain back off and tried to get the old keyway off, that thing will not budge.. It might be because I was being gentle so I do not mess up the shaft. I'll try to get that out tomorrow. Those things just sit in the hole right?

another thing I noticed, my new cam gear does not sit flush.. maybe the old one didn't, I don't know at this point because I didn't take pics or notice the old one. Maybe since I haven't torqued it down all the way, that's why its not "pressed on" all the way?

Key just get stuck into the hole the go in, but, sometimes they grow quite fond of their home, and outright REFUSE to leave. Sometimes ya gotta get pretty serious.

Cam gear does not sit flush. Bolt and washer holds everything in place though. No worries. (I don't think I would worry 'bout the key either. If it is fairly snug, that's fine, as the bolt (cam gear), or balancer (crank gear) also hold it in place.

Glad to see you got everything lined up.

I, too, wouldn't worry about the space in the key way. As long as it's not side-to-side space (which it doesn't look that way to me) I think you're fine. You have the same amount of space in the key way on the crankshaft sprocket as well.

Your old timing set... That doesn't look stock to me. Is that a single roller chain, or the goofy stock chain? Did you change it before, or was it a PO? Or am I just crazy?

The old chain looks like a silent chain to me (stock).

it did have a tiny bit of side to side play so I tried to pry it out. sort of damaged it I think. chipped a tad bit of the end piece off that sits on the crankshaft.

So I am not sure what I should do now. ive tried and tried, I can not get that little booger to budge. im thinking about going and getting some locktite 660 I think its called. some ppl use it for key/keyway repairs that or jb weld..

if I use that I pretty much just want to fill in the gap so there is no chance of the crank gear spinning on the shaft in the long run..

I could be over thinking this as I usually do, I would just feel better replacing the Key as the gears and balancer are all new.

if only I could find something super thin and strong enough to slide under the edge of the key to pop it up and out.. ehh, ill figure something out. need my truck on the road

Any tractor supply store will have a selection of keys for ya.

Put a screwdriver/chisel underneath one end of it, and smack it with a hammer. It'll come out.

I tried that, vice grips, damn near everything last night. Hit it w/wd-40 before I gave up last night.. Came out this morning and used a pair of sharp dikes and some clear headed thoughts and bam.. Pried it out within 5mins. Took up most of the space between the crank gear.. Was it worth all the trouble, who knows. Its new along with everything else so that's all I care about now.. Getting it all buttoned up today I hope.

Think I'll wait to do oil pan, 'bout had enough for now..
