I am gonna try and rebuild my old 5.9 360 this summer but it needs new rod because it ran too hot a few times and egg shaped the the crank journals ! I could have the old ones resized but who sells new rods and what brand should i get ?

If you are going through the trouble to rebuild it, go ahead and purchase a rotating assembly kit, which includes rods, pistons, rings, crank, main and rod bearings. Also, for more power, consider using a stroker crank to make the engine displace 408 ci. Scat rotating kit 1-98111BI is a nice 408 ci rotating assembly kit.

did the crank journals survive?

Jegs, Summit, or a host of other places will happily sell you rods.

I put new rod and main bearings in it after it started knocking and had very little oil pressure along with a new pump and those lasted about 4,000 miles and it started again so i bought a new car and quit driving it ! The 5.2 in it now is weaker than tater water so i want to rebuild the 360 and put it back in !

Here we go again. People offer you advice and you won't take any of it.

If you have to buy a complete rotating assembly then buying the 408 kit isn't going to cost that much more. Then the only other thing you need is a tuner which you can get from Hemifever for $500. Sometimes you have to spend a little money to get a quality item. Try to stop and think before you write and when you do write reread what it is you're saying to make sure it makes sense.

Try looking at some parts stores for the parts you need. Asking us if you can get them doesn't mean you can even if we say you can. Only the parts store can tell you for sure.

All the other stuff?? The only other "truly required items" are a neutrally balanced flex plate (which you can use from a 5.2) and harmonic balancer. A tuner is not "required" unless you are changing the camshaft and other supporting items. You are going to have to install a new double roller timing chain and gear set, water pump, oil pump, gaskets anyway, if you rebuild it as a 360 or 408 anyway. Please help me to understand what's keeping you from building a true small block torque monster??

I want a good strong dependable truck motor ! Nothing too radical ! Doesn't the 408 need bigger inj's,throttle body and better intake ?

No, those items are nice for max output of the engine, but are not 'required'. I also want a strong, dependable running engine, which is why I'm planning to build a 408 as my next engine for my truck. I'd suggest doing some homework on the 408 stroker build, so that you gain some additional knowledge on it and in turn, feel more comfortable with the option. If you have a reputable machine shop that you trust in your area, perhaps speak with them about it, too.
