Default AXLE question

I got mil 36s on the dodge right now... If in the End I want 40's what gear shall be adequate. Could I run 4.88s decently with 40's? What about 5:13s? I want the low torque but I gotta make a desicion that works both ways. Also how much clearance height wise do i need based on my pic below. that's stock, no lift.

I'd go 5.13 for sure. With the 36" tires you might have slightly high rpms but with the 40" tires your engine & tranny will thank you. I'm running 5.13 gears and 38" tires and like the gearing a lot.

I can't tell you about the lift.

I agree with Wildman, gear for the larger size tires, then when you do change, you won't have to spend that money again. (and it is not a particularly cheap endeavor....)

I like that idea. One more question (abit unrelated) My computer went out and I had to get a loaner. Thanks to this swap, my dash systems no longer work. I at least need the gas guage back. is there something I can do to add an aftermarket or something??

What year PCM did you get as a "loaner"?

And that is why nothing works. In 98, a LOT change in how things work. They went to a 'mini-network' in your truck, where everything talked to the central timer module (hub) and it talked to everything else. The older PCM doesn't tell the CTM anything at all, so, the CTM doesn't have a clue what to tell anything else. You need a 98 or newer PCM.

It's OBDII, after a fashion.... it still reads all the same sensors, and gives all the same outputs, so it will run the engine, but, none of the instruments will work, and I bet cruise doesn't either...
