Verify that the 96 is indeed an RE trans..... (8 pin connector going down into the valve body) Seems that we have seen an RH in a 96. Aside from that, should bolt right in, hook right up, and work just fine.

Ok, that sounds good. Under my friends truck I had one 8 pin connector, two 3 pin connectors and one 2 pin connector. So I guess it should be a 46RE transmission.

Sounds like it is a 46re in your friends truck.
You can also take the VIN number to your local dealers parts dept. and they can print off the build sheet for it.
Everything his truck came with from the factory.
