Default Transmission front pump

Well my tranny is leaking front the front shaft area... So I thought before I have it rebuilt again to order up a frint pump and seal kit for my 46re

Anyone ever replace theirs? Is it a pretty simple swap? I've done my timing chain and headgaskets and etc so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty just wanted to hear others opinion on the difficult level of installing a new pump

Front pump seal leak is a very common issue. Typically, the front pump seal is all that needs to be replaced. I wouldn't replace the pump unless you have other issues.

hardest part is pulling the trans out to get access, they are easy and don't require tearing the trans apart

I got a smoking deal on a brand new pump that's wat I'm gonna put it in.. I'm pretty sure the pump In it is fine as I was just driving home doing 45 when the seal went. But knowing my luck I'll replace the seal and the pump will go out in a month...

But thanks for the info sounds like I should have it done from start to finish in a day plus a few beers

Were you able to continue driving and make it home after the leaky seal started or did the transmission run dry of fluid and you had to make it home on the end of the tow hook?

I drove it about a half mile to a safe place to pull over and then had my father in law bring his tow truck and tow it home... It didn't run dry.it still drive great just leaked bad and didn't want to run It dry cause I was like 5 miles from home and have it burn up cause it only has maybe 20k on a rebuild

Nope very ****ty shop wouldn't want them to touch it again anyways. Insurence payed for the rebuild and picked them cause there were cheaper than the others by like 200 bucks. But they only had a 12month/12,000me warrenty

Given the background you've provided, I would just replace the front pump seal and ensure the converter snout is free of any burrs that could cut the seal. Replacing that pump is more labor than its worth.

More labor than it's worth? It's like 7 bolts and you pull it out with a slide hammer? How is that to much labor
