Don't just replace the snap ring, replace it with a Transfer Case Saver. It completely eliminates the trouble prone snap ring.

Kinda. There ARE some differences. If that is the route you choose to go, get one from a donor truck same body style/bed length as yours, and grab the driveshafts as well. You can get hybrid u-joints to go from the larger shafts, to the half ton axles.

Bear in mind, 241s out of a diesel, or v-10, will have a different input gear, than the V-8 versions. (there were no v-6 3/4 ton 4x4's.)

I think the input gear is longer on the manual..... I think.... It *might* work from an auto... not sure on that one.

so I pulled the transfeer case and replaced it with a 231d, got it all back together fine and it still makes the same noises, in first, second, and third gear. also, the tcase that i pulled has a place for a three wire connector and the new one doesnt, can i switch rear output cases? and the speedo doesnt work, it dies when i brake to a stop, and the tcase shift pattern is different. any ideas? the old tcase is pretty wasted, the seals are leaking badly and show wear
