Default abs and brake light intermittently on

Got a 98 1500 with the 318 5 speed, 2 wheel abs (I'm assuming, no sensors hooked to my front) lights came on and speedo crapped out on me. Replaced rear abs/speed sensor. Fixed the problem. Now a week later the lights came back on. Abs motor doesn't constantly run, doesn't brake like abs is engaged, pedal is solid, fluid full. I've read the brake light switch, but my brake lights work fine so that's not possible is it? Any suggestions? It's only on intermittently. Sometimes i shut it off and it goes away, sometimes it doesn't. When i turn the key to run with the engine off the lights are off, only when i start the truck it comes on. The lights never come on while driving. As long as the trucks on and the lights off they won't turn on

Your speedo freaking out at about the same time? Could be that your truck just doesn't like that particular brand of sensor. (wouldn't be the first time....)

Check the connection at that rear sensor anyway.... just for giggles.

Aside from that, see if the parts store has a scanner that will read ABS codes... see if you can find out what it's whining about.

RWAL doesn't have the motor controller. It just has the dump valve on the rear line.

only place that has a scanner is the dealer who wants $130 and pep boys who wants 110 to check what its complaining about. The speedo works constantly so the sensor wire. Should be fine shouldn't it?

Pep boys wants money to check codes? Do they have a shop there? Or is it just the parts counter guy? (No way in hell I would pay HIM 110 bucks to read codes....)

In either event, that's just stupid.... Go to autozone, or advance auto, or some other place with hand held scanners, borrow one, do it yourself.

Yeah they have a shop, they would have to order the scanner. I might check into borrowing it. Harbor freight has one that claims to check abs for $140 but I'm not sure I'd trust that. I'm leaning toward the actual module going bad or somehow the brake light switch is bad and still works correctly...lol if the light comes on when i leave for work I'll try messing with the wires to get it to shut off

On the RWAL guys, there is no 'module", it's controlled by the PCM. Brake switch has a separate circuit to clue in the ABS, I think.... Possible that is bad.

I had that issue when i got my truck. I cant remember at this point what the solution was though. But i know i had the parking break replaced, all of it. I dont remember anymore though, and that mechanic has since moved. Ill try to think of what we did!

Cool! No module means i can save a lot of money! Didn't have any problems with it today. But how would i check if the circuit is bad?
